Travis' Trip to Dallas

Travis has remained very close with some of his roommates from BYU. A year ago they cooked up a plan to have a ruinion every year. Their planned destination-Dallas, Texas to watch the BYU vs. Oklahoma game. Little did they know that it would be one of the best games that they would see in person! I would have loved to have been there too, but my Mom drove up and we went pregger/baby/craft shopping instead and watched the game on TV.

His friend, Dave, was in charge of renting the hotel rooms. Apparently he won't be given that job for future reunions because the motel was pretty sketchy.

The rooms were supposed to have queen beds, but as you can see they were only doubles. These boys are still pretty frugal so they had to share beds that they thought were going to be queens. Travis didn't sleep very well because he didn't like the idea of sharing a bed with another man.

Eric, Bradley's bro. in law, was in charge of renting the car. I haven't heard any complaints so I think he was successful.

Travis, I guess, was in charge of finding places to eat. Everyone got in late so it wasn't until midnight when they could all finally eat dinner. The place he had picked turned into a night club after midnight so they had to go with plan B. Wendy's.
Saturday morning they headed out for breakfast. Apparently the Knights Inn motel didn't provide a good enough breakfast for these boys.

The rest of Saturday was filled with some sightseeing and belt buckle buying before the game. Actually, only Justin found a good deal on a belt buckle. Most of the group wanted one too, but couldn't find one they liked for a good price.

For the sightseeing part they went to where JFK was shot. The 'X' marks the spot.

Bradley's job was the tickets. As you can see they were $50 nosebleeds, but the 60 yard wide, crystal HD screen made it worth it.

After BYU pulled off the win, Travis broke out in an impromptu Haka tribal war dance. Too bad they didn't get that on video. I would've liked to have seen that!

This is a picture of 'Deepta'. She is the motel's manager's wife who picked up the boys from the stadium in their family mini van. Apparently this was the free shuttle they offered to and from the stadium.

They had the time of their lives and I think they are already planning for next year. Travis, since being home, has already rewatched the game once. He says he is keeping it on our DVR until we have to get rid of it.

I'm really glad Travis has such great friends that he can have such a good time with!

Go Giants!

For Father's Day weekend my parents came up and we went to a Giants game. Travis wanted me to post this picture because it's of the two (yes, two) homerun balls he caught during batting practice. He caught them bare handed and was ecstatic. Since coming home he likes to carry them around the house and he sleeps every night with them on his night stand.

We Are The Champions!

This post is a little late, but back in May we attended the collegiate rugby national championship. Stanford hosts it every year. Travis' younger brother Andrew has been on BYU's team for the last couple years. Cal has won 24 championships since the Rugby National Championship competition started in 1980. And for the last 3 years BYU has competed with Cal in the championship; always facing defeat. That is, until this year. We were lucky enough to watch history in the making. BYU finally pulled off a victory against Cal! Travis rushed the field in his excitement and he couldn't stop smiling all night. It's funny how sports can make a guy so happy. I guess it's kind of like how a new pair of shoes makes a girl happy. Well, at least me! Travis has always wanted to say BYU is number 1 in the land and now he can officially say it!

Super Bowl Saturday

Travis was asked by Ryan Harris to play in the medical school football league, MFL for short. They had a remarkable season ending 9-1 going into the playoffs. Saturday they had their championship game and who else do they play but the only team that beat them during the regular season. And unfortunately they lost again. Oh well, 2nd place isn't that bad right? Who are we kidding, that spray painted gold football trophy would have been awesome on our bookshelf!

Go UVa

We left Northern Virginia early so Travis could attend the UVa vs. Virginia Tech game. He wanted to broadcast his allegiance all the way to Charlottesville and count how many others were doing so too. I think the official count was UVa 28, Tech 13. Unfortunately, the score of the game didn't end up with us on top, but Travis had fun nonetheless.

Go #4, GOOOOOO!!!

Travis got asked to play on the UVA law school softball team. They had a tournament the first weekend in April. Travis played in all the games on Friday and Saturday and they won soundly. The team went on to play in the elimination rounds on Sunday without Travis and lost in the sweet 16. Coincidence? I think not. He led his team going 9 for 11 at the plate, including a two run home run and grand slam.
