Pinewood Derby

Saturday Travis participated in his first and last pinewood derby. He was really excited about making a car and had a very creative and intricate design planned out. Unfortunately, it was a little too creative and intricate and he realized there was no way he could produce what he envisioned. So, the block of wood sat on our end table for days until 30 minutes before the event when Travis decided to pick a name for it, put wheels on and add weights to the back. His car finished consistently 3rd out of 4 cars in all of it's heats, but Travis says he will never participate in another pinewood derby again. Thanks to Kristen Durst for taking this detailed picture for us.

Fun day

We had a great family housing sponsored dinner at Thai 99. I, not being the adventurous eater, have enjoyed going every year for Valentine's Day because it's buffet style. I think if I were to go and only order from the menu I would not like what I got. Here I can just pick and choose and can try a lot of different things, which has expanded my palate. Travis loves it because he can pig out more than usual.

Us with Jamie and Matt Ormsby.
Jamie is the Family Housing president
who orchestrated the event.

I nanny 4 kids and the youngest, Matthew, turned 1 yesterday. After Thai 99 we went to his birthday party. It was so much fun watching him investigate the cake and open presents. He's really good at ripping into those packages.

Kathryn and me celebrating

Matthew already enjoying the book we got him.

He's really into that book!
I have a feeling I'm going to be reading that book over and over and over...

Happy V-Day!

Another Valentine's Day has come and gone. We spent our love-filled day with me working tirelessly on my quilt and Travis studying. For dinner we decided to use a gift certificate to Duner's that we got for Christmas. It was very good and fun to get all dressed up to go somewhere nice. Right before we got up to leave a sudden hush went through the restaurant as heads turned to see Howie Long walk in the door. Travis almost started hyperventilating seeing a football legend in the same place as us. As we walked to our car Travis said "it makes you feel like a high-roller when a celebrity is eating at the same place as you".

Super Bowl Saturday

Travis was asked by Ryan Harris to play in the medical school football league, MFL for short. They had a remarkable season ending 9-1 going into the playoffs. Saturday they had their championship game and who else do they play but the only team that beat them during the regular season. And unfortunately they lost again. Oh well, 2nd place isn't that bad right? Who are we kidding, that spray painted gold football trophy would have been awesome on our bookshelf!
